Uninstalling current User Interface language -------------------------------------------- If you decide to uninstall the current User Interface language, you must reboot the system to ensure the language is completely removed. Windows Logon screen (winlogon) ------------------------------- Changes to the default language will not affect the language in which the Windows logon screen is displayed until after the machine has been rebooted. Software Installation --------------------- It is recommended that you set the User Interface language to English before installing software on the Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Version. Administration Tools (installation) ----------------------------------- You must set the User Interface language to English before installing the Administration Tools (ADMINPAK.MSI). After installation there are no restrictions on the User Interface language. Sysprep ------- You must set the User Interface language to English before running the sysprep tool (SYSPREP.EXE). Upgrading from pre-release versions ----------------------------------- In order to upgrade to the Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Version from pre- release versions of the product you must first uninstall all User Interface languages (using MUISetup). Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Version is not a fully localized version ------------------------------------------------------------------- A Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Version system will largely look and behave like the localized version, with the exception that the following items are not localized (i.e. remain in English): all 16bit code, bitmaps, registry keys and values, folders and file names; and INF files. This affects about 5% of the User Interface - most of the areas affect administrative tools. Installing non-Server languages on Windows 2000 Server, MultiLanguage Version or Windows 2000 Advanced Server, MultiLanguage Version ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server are not localized into the Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Danish, Finnish, or Norwegian languages (Windows 2000 Professional is the only system localized into these languages). Consequently, even though you may install these languages on the Windows 2000 Server MultiLanguage Version or Windows 2000 Advanced Server MultiLanguage Version products, none of the Server-specific User Interface elements are localized. For this reason we do not recommend switching the User Interface of Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server to any of these languages. The ability to install them was added to allow users of Terminal Services to use the additional languages for the User Interface of client sessions.
